Holding On to Hope: Rishi Das’s Quiet Fight Against Thalassaemia

Eight-year-old Rishi Das from Bengaluru, Karnataka, has spent most of his young life battling Thalassaemia, a condition diagnosed seven years ago when he was just a toddler. What began as frequent illnesses and weakness slowly revealed a lifelong struggle that would change everything for his family.

Rishi’s father, Bopi Das, works as a coolie, earning just enough to meet daily needs. His mother, Doli Das, is a housewife who spends her days caring for Rishi and managing the household. The family of four lives with constant uncertainty, weighed down by mounting medical expenses and debts taken to ensure Rishi receives timely care.

Regular hospital visits, blood transfusions, and medications have become part of Rishi’s routine. Despite it all, he remains gentle and resilient, holding on to small joys and silent courage far beyond his years. Doctors at HCG Cancer Centre, Bengaluru, Karnataka (3.8km from KSR Bengaluru City Junction), have now advised a Bone Marrow Transplant, the only long-term treatment that can give Rishi a chance at a healthier future.

The cost of the treatment is Rs. 25,00,000/- (Rupees Twenty-Five Lakh Only), amount well beyond the family's means. With limited income and existing loans, every day is a struggle between hope and helplessness.

Yet, Rishi’s parents refuse to give up. They continue to believe that kindness and support can help their son move from hospital corridors to a life filled with strength, laughter, and possibility.
