In a small home in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, three-month-old Shivam, son of Anuj Kumar and Shivani, is battling a condition most people have never even heard of. Born with spina bifida and myelomeningocele, Shivam came into the world with a rare spinal defect that needs surgical correction.

Doctors had told Anuj Kumar and Shivani, even before Shivam was born, that the chances of their baby surviving were slim. Somehow, against all odds, Shivam held on and came into this world, and for a while, it felt like their prayers had been answered. Today, however, the swelling on his lower back continues to grow larger with each passing day, and along with it grows the worry in their home. Anuj Kumar's parents, who live with the young couple, share in this pain just as deeply, watching their only grandchild struggle.

Doctors at Sethi Nursing Home, Kankhal, Haridwar (4 to 5 km from Haridwar Junction), have advised a paediatric neurosurgical evaluation and surgical repair help Shivam recover and grow like any other child. The cost of treatment is Rs. 4,50,000 (Rupees Four Lakh Fifty Thousand Only), a sum that the family is struggling to arrange.

Anuj Kumar is the sole earner for a household of five, and providing for his parents, wife, and infant son already stretches his income thin. Shivam's condition shows no signs of slowing down, and each day without treatment adds to the family's anxiety. Despite these challenges, Anuj Kumar and Shivani continue to hold onto hope, believing that with timely support, their little boy can undergo this surgery and finally get the chance to grow up healthy and strong.
