A Childhood Interrupted: Sanskar’s Story of Strength

Last week, during the joyful celebrations of Makar Sankranti, 13-year-old Sanskar Thorat from Nashik, Maharashtra, stepped out to play with his friends, unaware that his life was about to change in an instant. While playing, Sanskar went near an electric board and suffered a severe electric burn injury. What was meant to be an ordinary festive day turned into a nightmare for his family.

Sanskar was rushed to Sahawas Hospital, Nashik, Maharashtra (12km from Nashik Road Railway Station), where doctors confirmed the seriousness of his condition. Due to the extent of the burns, he requires multiple debridements under anaesthesia, skin grafting, flap covering, and, if urgently required, amputation. Each procedure is crucial for saving his life and preventing further complications.

His father, Pravin Thorat, works as a labourer and earns a modest daily income that barely sustains the family of four. His mother, Radhika Thorat, is a homemaker who now spends her days and nights by her son’s bedside, holding his hand and whispering words of comfort. The family is already burdened with debt, and the treatment cost of Rs. 9,30,000/- (Rupees Nine Lakh Thirty Thousand) has added an overwhelming strain.

Despite the pain and uncertainty, Sanskar continues to show remarkable courage. With timely medical care and compassionate support, this young boy has a chance to recover and reclaim the childhood that was so suddenly interrupted.
