Priya Rathod is a 13-year-old girl from Kolhapur, Maharashtra. When she was in the 8th standard, she returned home from school one day with a swollen leg. At first, everyone assumed it was just a minor injury and applied a spray to ease the pain. But when the swelling didn’t reduce, her uncle rushed her for an MRI scan and a biopsy. That’s when they received the heartbreaking news, Priya was suffering from Chondroblastic Osteogenic Sarcoma, a type of bone cancer.

According to the doctors at Kolhapur Cancer Centre, Maharashtra ( about 3.7 km from Kolnur Railway Station) , Priya urgently needs Limb Salvage Surgery – Wide Local Excision with Reconstruction using a Mega Prosthesis. The estimated cost of the treatment is Rs. 5,00,000/- (Rupees Five Lakh Only).

Priya’s father Narsu left her at a very young age. Her mother, Manjula too had to leave her shortly after that. She now lives with her grandmother and her maternal uncle. The family of six survives on the earnings of Manjula’s brother, who works as a daily-wage labourer. They have already exhausted all their savings and borrowed money from relatives, friends, and neighbours. Now, they have no means left to arrange the funds for Priya’s life-saving surgery.
