Within five hours of the vaccination, Jerome’s tiny body turned blue. Panic set in as he was rushed to the hospital. Doctors soon confirmed that Jerome had developed a severe blood infection and was also diagnosed with a genetic condition. Further examinations revealed that he was suffering from sepsis with septic shock and multi-organ dysfunction,a life-threatening condition for someone so small.

Jerome is currently admitted to Rajagiri Hospital, Aluva, Kerala (5.8km from Aluva Railway Station), where doctors have advised a prolonged NICU stay to stabilise his fragile condition. Surrounded by machines, tubes, and constant monitoring, Jerome continues to fight silently, showing remarkable strength for a newborn.

His father, Lijo Thomas, works as a pump operator and earns very little, while his mother, Lini Xavier, is a homemaker who stays by Jerome’s side every day. The cost of treatment is approximately Rs. 7,00,000/- (Rupees Seven Lakh Only), a burden far beyond the family’s limited means.

Yet, despite fear and exhaustion, Jerome’s parents hold on to hope, that their little boy will recover and one day grow up healthy, safe, and smiling in their arms.
