Alfiya's Heart Deserves a Chance to Heal

Alfiya Bano, a ten-year-old girl from Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, has been fighting a rare and complicated heart condition for most of her young life. Diagnosed with CCTGA, VSD and PS along with Situs Inversus, her heart has never worked the way a healthy child's should, leaving her fragile and constantly in need of care.

For Atik Kayum and Shahnaj Bano, every passing day brings more worry for their daughter's future. Alfiya has missed out on nearly two years of regular schooling because of her failing health. In order to get her the treatment she needs, the family has travelled to Mumbai with their young son, leaving behind their two elder daughters in the care of a relative back in the village so that their education continues uninterrupted.

Doctors at Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Mumbai (about 2 km from Nahur Railway Station, Central Line), have recommended a Senning and Rastelli procedure with conduit placement to correct her heart defect. The estimated cost of this treatment is Rs. 4,60,000 (Rupees Four Lakh Sixty Thousand Only).

Supporting a household of six on an income that is far from steady, Atik and Shahnaj are finding it extremely difficult to arrange funds of this scale. Still, they refuse to give up on their daughter. With timely support, Alfiya can undergo the surgery she urgently needs and finally step back into the life of a normal, happy child.
