Little Steps Towards a Brighter Tomorrow: Driya’s Story

From the day she was born, little Driya R., just two years old from Tumkur, Karnataka, has been quietly living with a condition she never chose. Diagnosed at birth with Bilateral Developmental Hip Dysplasia, Driya’s early days were marked not by carefree movement, but by discomfort and limited mobility. While other children her age take confident steps, Driya struggles to stand and walk without pain.

Her parents, Ramakrishna and Asha, have done everything within their means to care for their daughter. Ramakrishna works as a labourer, earning a modest daily income that barely covers the family’s basic needs. With six members in the household, mounting debts, and a rented home to maintain, each day is a careful balance between survival and hope. Asha, a homemaker, stays by Driya’s side, offering comfort and strength through every hospital visit.

Doctors at Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Bengaluru, Karnataka (4km from KSR Bengaluru City Junction), have advised urgent surgical intervention. Driya requires open reduction of both hips along with acetabuloplasty, and possibly femoral osteotomy, to correct her condition and allow her the chance to walk, run, and grow without pain. The cost of treatment, Rs. 5,00,000/- (Rupees Five Lakh Only), is far beyond what the family can afford on their own.

Despite the challenges, Driya continues to smile, unaware of the hardships surrounding her. Her journey is one of quiet courage, a reminder that timely medical care and collective compassion can help a child take her first pain-free steps towards a healthier future.
