A Fragile Beginning: Baby of Punam Gawade

"I lost one of my babies the day they were born. I cannot afford to lose my daughter too. She is so small, fighting every minute inside the NICU. I am the only earning member of my family, and I have already spent all my savings on her treatment. Every day the hospital bills are increasing, but I cannot give up on my child.

On 25th January 2026, Mrs. Punam Deepak Gawade delivered premature twins at just 28 weeks of pregnancy at Elite Women & Child Care Hospital, Mumbai, through an emergency L.S.C.S. (C-section). Tragically, one of the babies was stillborn.

The surviving newborn baby girl was born extremely premature, weighing only 1.1 kg. She is currently battling multiple life-threatening conditions including Very Low Birth Weight (VLBW), Sepsis, and Respiratory Distress.

Immediately after birth, she was shifted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where she remains on NIV/Ventilator support under continuous monitoring by Neonatal Intensivists and Superspecialists. She requires round-the-clock care, high-end medications, investigations, supportive therapy, and rehabilitative treatment.

Doctors have advised that her NICU stay may extend up to 2–3 months, depending on her response to treatment and to prevent severe infections or systemic complications. The estimated cost of hospitalization is approximately Rs.12,00,000/- (Rupees Twelve Lakh) only, which may increase in case of extended care or unforeseen complications.

Her father, Mr. Deepak Gawade, works in a private job and is the sole breadwinner of a family of four. In an attempt to save his daughter, he has already exhausted all his savings. With mounting medical expenses and no financial backup left, the family is facing immense emotional and financial distress.

At just 18 days old, this tiny warrior continues to fight for survival. She now needs urgent support to help her overcome this critical phase and get a fair chance at life.
