Mothers are an integral part of our lives and they play an essential role in shaping us into the people we become. They are often the primary caregivers, nurturers, and protectors of their children providing them with love, support and guidance.

Motherhood is a complex and challenging journey, filled with both joys and hardships. At times, it becomes difficult for a mother to juggle multiple tasks. From the moment a woman conceives, her role changes into becoming a mother and she is faced with the responsibility of caring for another human being and all the nurturing she does is with lots of happiness and compassion.

Despite all the challenges, mothers have an incredible ability to adapt and persevere, often putting their own needs aside to prioritize their children’s well-being. At times, they forget that they do need to devote time to themselves and that self-care is of utmost importance.

According to the American Psychological Association ,researchers define self-care as providing adequate attention to one's own physical and psychological wellness. It is fundamental to wellness and stress reduction. Taking care of oneself may seem indulgent or self-centered, but that is far from the truth. Busy mothers frequently experience emotions of weariness, stress, or even depression. Even modest acts of self-care or self-kindness can go a long way in reducing these symptoms.

Here are 5 tips through which mothers can practice self-care:

  1. Take breaks when you can:
  2. As a mother, it is quite challenging to find time for yourself. But taking breaks, even for a few minutes, can help you recharge and reduce stress. You could take a walk, read a book or simply be quiet and relax.

  3. Nourish your body:
  4. Eating healthy, balanced meals can boost your energy levels and improve your mood. Add vegetables, fruits, and enough proteins to your diet and stay hydrated.

  5. Prioritize sleep:
  6. Getting enough sleep can be difficult for mothers, especially mothers of newborn babies, but it is essential for both physical and mental health. Try maintaining a sleep schedule and relaxing.

  7. Connect with others:
  8. It can be helpful to talk to other mothers who understand what you’re going through. Try joining a parenting group, connecting with other mothers online or scheduling time to catch up with your friends.

  9. Make time for hobbies:
  10. At times, mothers forget about their favourite activities they enjoyed earlier. Being a mother, it becomes tough for them to find time to do their hobbies. But, rather than being regretful, mothers can pursue their interests, probably scheduling time each week for something that gives them happiness whether that’s reading, crafting or even exercise.

Do remember, taking care of yourself is self-love - it’s necessary for your own well-being and your family’s. Child Help Foundation on this Mother’s Day, wishes and thank every mother for their compassionate love, care, and sacrifices they did throughout their motherhood journey.
