We were born to help the world, Not to destroy it

The environment where every creature has a right to exist. The environment nurtures our existence on Earth. Everything we experience—including land, plants, water, air, sunlight, forests, food, rivers, and other natural elements—is derived from the environment. It has a whole cycle that it uses to keep the earth's ecosystems in the right balance. Our ability to live a healthy life depends on the environment's ability to preserve the harmony of nature.

To preserve and maintain the Environment, every year on June 5th World Environment Day is celebrated. Each year is followed by a theme and the theme in 2023 is to focus on solutions to plastic pollution under the campaign #BeatPlasticPollution. The world is being inundated by plastic. More than 400 million tonnes of plastic is produced every year, half of which is designed to be used only once. Of that, less than 10 per cent is recycled. An estimated 19-23 million tonnes end up in lakes, rivers and seas. Today, plastic clogs our landfills leaches into the ocean and is combusted into toxic smoke, making it one of the gravest threats to the planet.

Every individual needs to cater for the necessities for protecting the environment. One can achieve this by taking small steps like:

  1. Recycle:
  2. Recycling has a positive impact on the planet as it prevents too many plastics from ending up in landfills. Like recycling clean bottles, cans, paper and cardboard, not putting food or liquids in recycling, and not using loose plastic bags or recycled goods should be placed in plastic bags.

  3. Avoid Single-Use Plastics:
  4. Single-use plastic items are one of the biggest offenders when it comes to plastic pollution. Some common examples that contain single-use plastic include plastic-wrapped vegetables in supermarkets, wet wipes, cotton buds, plastic cutlery, coffee cups, and straws. Rather you can use stainless steel straws, bamboo stirrers, eco-friendly containers, and reusable glasses and cups.

  5. Use of a cloth bag:
  6. We go to the supermarket at least once a week to fill up our fridges. Thus, using Cloth bags is the best option because they are biodegradable and do not pollute the environment, they are capable of carrying more things, and they can be reused over and over again which eventually will improve our planet’s health.

  7. Buy in Bulk:
  8. Shopping in bulk is where you do one very big shop and pick up all the essentials you need, rather than buying smaller amounts of ingredients regularly. Not only can you save money by choosing to shop this way, but you also use a lot less packaging and single-use plastics.

  9. Make those around you aware of the importance of reducing the consumption of plastic:
  10. The impact of your actions for the benefit of the earth will expand tremendously if, in addition to reducing your consumption of plastic, you can persuade your family, friends, and coworkers to follow your lead by doing the same.

World Environment Day serves as a global platform to shed light on the pressing environmental issues. As Individuals, it is essential to recognize our role in contributing to the problem and take responsibility for adopting sustainable products.

Child Help Foundation always aims at protecting the environment. To achieve our goal we conduct regular Beach cleaning activities, tree plantation, and awareness programs. You can also be part of our programs and help in protecting our nature.
