Consider this: a world where pristine woods spread as far as the eye can see, pure air fills our lungs, and dynamic ecosystems coexist peacefully. Unfortunately, building such a world has grown increasingly challenging as our globe faces significant climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss. We must increase awareness and take practical measures towards finding answers. World Environment Day, observed internationally on June 5th each year, is an important event encouraging us to recognise our responsibility to support and protect the environment. This is an important call to action. It is reminding us of our responsibilities to the world. This blog will examine why World Environment Day is so important for our planet's future.

The United Nations launched World Environment Day in 1972 as a response to rising appreciation of the need for global environmental awareness. Recognising the growing environmental difficulties around us, a deliberate effort was undertaken to bring nations together and work on addressing these issues. The United Nations General Assembly has formally recognised June 5th as World Environment Day, citing increased awareness of global environmental challenges. Interestingly, this day also marks the start of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. The summit was a watershed moment in worldwide knowledge of environmental challenges. It was essential in the establishment of the United Nations Environment Programme.

This year’s World Environment Day campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.” The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will host the 2024 World Environment Day global celebrations. Here's why this year's topic is so important:
