Every year on February 11th, the world comes together to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This day highlights the crucial role women and girls play in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). At Child Help Foundation (CHF), we believe in fostering equal opportunities for girls, breaking stereotypes, and encouraging them to explore the limitless possibilities in science and innovation.

Science and technology shape the world, from healthcare advancements to environmental conservation and space exploration. Despite their significant contributions, women remain underrepresented in STEM fields. According to UNESCO, only 33% of researchers worldwide are women, and they hold fewer leadership roles in scientific institutions. The gender gap in STEM is not due to a lack of ability or interest but rather societal barriers, biases, and a lack of access to resources.

At CHF, we recognize that education is the key to unlocking potential. Our initiatives aim to bridge the gender gap in science by providing young girls with the tools, mentorship, and encouragement they need to pursue careers in STEM.

One of CHF’s flagship projects, the Mini Science Centres (MSCs), aims to provide hands-on science education to children, especially in rural and underprivileged areas. These centres, equipped with interactive models and experiments, encourage curiosity and critical thinking. We ensure that girls have equal access to these centres, allowing them to experience the joy of discovery and innovation.

In today’s digital era, computer literacy is essential. CHF has established computer labs in various schools to equip children with essential technological skills, even at an all-girls school, Tailik Girls’ School in Bihar. These labs are instrumental in ensuring that girls are not left behind in the digital revolution. Our efforts help them develop confidence in using technology and digital problem-solving.

CHF also integrates environmental awareness into its STEM initiatives. Through tree-planting drives, waste management programs, and climate action projects, we encourage girls to take leadership roles in environmental science. These activities not only nurture a love for science but also empower them to contribute to sustainability efforts in their communities.

Encouraging girls to pursue STEM careers requires a shift in societal mindsets. Families, schools, and communities play a crucial role in fostering a supportive environment. CHF actively engages with parents and educators to dispel myths about girls' abilities in science and advocate for gender-inclusive education.

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is a reminder that progress is ongoing. At CHF, we remain committed to empowering girls through education, mentorship, and equal opportunities in STEM fields. By investing in their potential today, we are building a future where innovation knows no gender.

As we celebrate this important day, let us pledge to support, encourage, and uplift the next generation of women scientists and innovators.
