We all celebrate Republic Day on 26th January the day when the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950. But did you know that there is a day to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution which is 26th November 1949 ? It is a celebration of the backbone of a nation’s identity. Constitution Day commemorates the adoption of the Constitution , the guiding document that shapes the destiny of a country.

Constitution Day has its origins in the Indian independence movement. Visionary leaders realised the country needed a strong framework to regulate its varied and diversified culture as it came out of colonial authority. On December 9, 1946, the Constituent Assembly was established, presided over by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and composed of a wide range of delegates from different areas and communities.

The enormous work of writing the Constitution was taken on by the Constituent Assembly. Often called the "Father of the Indian Constitution," Dr. B.R. Ambedkar was instrumental in drafting the text. To guarantee the inclusion of fundamental rights, equality principles, and safeguards for the protection of minorities , the assembly members participated in heated debates, discussions, and negotiations. The Indian Constitution is a one-of-a-kind synthesis of Western democratic principles with indigenous traditions. It takes influence from a variety of sources, including the United States Constitution, the British parliamentary system, and ancient Indian writings. The Indian Constitution's preamble embodies the people's aspirations, emphasising justice, liberty, equality, and brotherhood.
