Art and Artists have pushed humans to realms unknown. While often shunned by cynics, as a hedonistic pastime, Art has the power to move and change the world order. Art helps us to make sense of the world we are living in, and helps to personify our emotions.

When going through emotional turmoils, art is not a luxury but rather a sustenance. Hence it is necessary to encourage our children to pursue art and let their inner art flourish.

And what better way to enrich this perspective than Children’s Art Week, which will begin on June 29th 2023, and end on 19th July 2023. The event runs for the course of three weeks.

So in this article, we will explain why art is important for children and how it can help them to succeed in life. On a side note, we won’t be limiting art to just painting in this piece but will include all forms of art, whether it be dance, music, writing, filmmaking etc.

Arts help in boosting creativity and imagination in children. Creating or consuming art helps a child to think outside of the box, which in turn helps them generate novel ideas. While reading a book, a child has to rely on their imagination to picture scenarios, characters, events etc. This is a great way for a child to come up with different ideas and perspectives.

Art is also a great tool for a child to express themselves. Through Art, a child can communicate their ideas, feelings and thoughts to everyone. Sometimes emotions become impossible to verbalize, therefore art becomes a great medium of communication.

Empathy can also be developed through engrossing oneself in art. When a child watches a movie or reads a book, they understand what the character is going through, which helps them to process different emotions. This can also help the child to learn about societal issues like racism, sexism etc.

Keeping up with the topic of societal issues, art also helps a child to become culturally tolerant. Through Art, a child learns about different cultures, which opens their mind to new perspectives. This gives them a newfound appreciation for different cultures and traditions.

Art forms like dance, music and painting enhance a child’s motor skills. Dance is also a great physical activity, as it strengthens the bones and muscles of a child. It can also do wonders for a child’s self-esteem and confidence. Some dances like ballet are so physically taxing that their injury rate is much higher than sports. So, let no one say to you or your child that dance is easy.

Child Help Foundation recognizes the importance of art in childhood. To foster the inner artist of a child, we have organized numerous Bal-Melas, where children created various handicrafts, and competed in competitions like Mehendi, Rangoli and Face Painting. We have also organized drawing competitions on occasions like Ambedkar Jayanti.

Thank you for taking the time to read, please share this article with all the parents around you, so that they know the importance of Art. You can also use this as an inspiration to conduct Art Week Celebrations in your institutions.
