World NGO Day, observed on February 27th, is a day dedicated to commemorating the vital work of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) worldwide. These organisations play an important role in solving global issues, campaigning for human rights, assisting people in need, and promoting social and environmental justice.

NGOs have a wide range of purposes and areas of specialisation, including humanitarian help and disaster relief, environmental protection, education, and healthcare. They work free of government authority and are motivated by a desire to make a constructive contribution to society.

The day was officially proposed and recognised in 2010 and declared in 2012. It was officially proposed and recognised on April 17, 2010, by 12 countries of the Baltic Sea NGO Forum in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Baltic Sea NGO Forum member countries were Belarus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Norway and Sweden. The first global inaugural event of World NGO Day was hosted by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland on 27 February 2014 in Helsinki, Finland.

Role of NGOs

The theme for World NGO Day 2024 is “Building a Sustainable Future: The Role of NGOs in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals” (SDGs). As we negotiate today's complicated difficulties, a focus on sustainable development goals becomes increasingly important. This topic honours and promotes the efforts of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to solve critical challenges such as poverty, inequality, environmental protection, and healthcare. The subject emphasises the role of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in attaining the SDGs, highlighting their proactive efforts to create good and long-term improvements in communities throughout the world. It is a call to action, asking for communal support and collaboration to create a future in which sustainability and social responsibility are central to global growth.

Child Help Foundation is one such child-centric Organization that strives to give the best interests of children. The organization focuses on education, health, food, and shelter. The organization operates through a variety of programmes and initiatives to give vulnerable children education, healthcare, and support. Their efforts are centred on tackling the underlying causes of these problems and encouraging youngsters to create better futures for themselves. From providing access to Quality Education and healthcare services to providing Sustainable Village Development programs, Child Help Foundation works to build a society in which every child may flourish and realise their full potential.

On World NGO Day, the effective work serves as a reminder of the significance of supporting organisations devoted to improving the lives of children throughout the world.
