A Little Life, A Long Fight: Shashank’s Journey of Strength

Since he was just six months old, Vanguri Shashank from Krishna, Andhra Pradesh, now 6 years old, has been living with Thalassemia Major, a condition that has shaped his childhood in ways no child should experience. What began as a diagnosis in infancy soon turned into a lifelong struggle, with Shashank requiring blood transfusions every 15 days just to survive.

While other children his age enjoy school and play, Shashank’s days are often spent in hospitals, undergoing frequent treatments. Despite the physical toll, he continues to show remarkable courage, facing each day with a quiet resilience that inspires everyone around him.

Doctors at MGM Cancer Institute, Chennai, Tamil Nadu (900m from Nungambakkam Railway Station), have advised a bone marrow transplant , a treatment that can offer Shashank a chance at a healthier and more independent life. However, the cost of this life-saving procedure is Rs. 16,00,000 (Rupees Sixteen Lakh Only) , an amount far beyond what his family can afford.

Shashank’s father, Vanguri Nagarjuna, works as a daily wage labourer, while his mother, Vanguri Estheri, takes care of the home and occasionally works when opportunities arise.

Supporting a family of six with limited income and growing debt has made this journey even more difficult.

Yet Shashank continues to fight, hope in his eyes, a reminder that with timely help and support, his life can be transformed.
