A Small Heart Carrying a Big Struggle

Just seven months old, Mustafaraza Attar, son of Kalim Attar and Reshma Attar from Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra, has been unwell since the day he came into this world. What seemed like ordinary infant troubles slowly turned into constant fever, breathlessness and excessive sweating, and it took several visits to doctors before the family finally learned that their son was suffering from a Ventricular Septal Defect, a hole in the heart that has been making even the simplest things, like feeding and sleeping, a struggle for him.

For Kalim and Reshma, this has been an anxious few months. With two other children at home, an elder son and a daughter, and Kalim's ageing parents also living with them, the household of seven has been consumed with worry ever since Mustafaraza's condition was diagnosed. Reshma stays close to her baby through the day, watching every breath he takes, while Kalim tries to hold the family together through all the uncertainty.

Doctors at Apollo Hospitals, Nashik, Maharashtra (about 7.6 to 10 km from Nashik Road Railway Station), have recommended RVSD surgical closure along with supportive treatment to help Mustafaraza recover fully. The estimated cost of this treatment is Rs. 3,50,000 (Rupees Three Lakh Fifty Thousand Only).

With a household of seven depending on very limited earnings, saving this kind of money feels almost impossible for the Attar family. Yet Kalim and Reshma have not given up hope. With the right support and timely treatment, their little son can finally get the strong, healthy start to life that he deserves.
