“Charity given to a worthy person simply because it is right to give, without consideration of anything in return, at the proper time and in the proper place, is stated to be in the mode of goodness.”
On 16th July 2026, the sacred and grand Rath Yatra will commence in Puri, Odisha. This revered festival celebrates the divine journey of Lord Jagannath, the Lord of the Universe, along with Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, as they travel to the Gundicha Temple, affectionately known as their aunt’s abode. For over 5,000 years, this holy tradition has united millions of devotees in an extraordinary display of faith, devotion, and spiritual fervour.
In Sanatana Dharma, Annadaan (the donation of food) is regarded as the highest form of charity, “Annadaan Mahadaan.” The profound significance of Annadaan stems from the belief that “Annam Parabrahma Swaroopam”, meaning food is the manifestation of the Divine itself. Offering food to the hungry is therefore considered an offering to God and a sacred act of selfless service.
