“My son always asks me when he will be free from this heart defect. I don't know what to answer him.
This surgery is the only option to free my son from this cage of suffering. We have spent all our savings
on his treatment so far; we are in debt now. But we cannot even afford that. Please, please help us.” -
Vishal is the 10-year-old son of Mr. Nagesh and Mrs. Vinuka from Telangana. Vishal has been suffering
from a complex heart defect since his birth. He has been told to be cautious all his life because his heart
is fragile.
Vishal is the first child of his parents. Therefore, they took extreme care of their loving son, and their
happiness knew no boundaries. But fate had different plans for them. When Vishal was as young as 11
days old, he underwent a few tests; the results were shocking. He was diagnosed with Complex Single
Ventricle (a Functional Heart Disease). After a few days of treatment at the hospital, doctors discharged
Vishal, informing his parents that Vishal would need to undergo heart surgeries in the future.
When Vishal was one year old, he underwent a Bidirectional (BD) Glenn shunt. This resolved only half of
the problems for Vishal as his little body was too weak to go through major surgery. Since then, Vishal has been living a different childhood than others. He faces difficulties in breathing often. His body grows
weak and cannot perform activities that require strength.
Vishal is 10 years old now and his condition has worsened. He was taken to the Apollo Institute of
Medical Sciences and Research, Hyderabad where doctors advised a Staged Fontan Operation as a part
of his treatment. The estimated cost of which is Rs. 3,90,000/- (Rupees Three Lakhs Ninety Thousand
Only).
Vishal's parents are daily wage farm labourers. Both earn up to Rs. 200/- each day. This minimal income
barely suffices the monthly expenses for the family of five and the education of Vishal and his two
younger siblings. His younger siblings do not even know what difficulties his brother is going through yet
pray every day for his recovery. The family needs you to support them so they can afford Vishal's
expensive yet life-saving treatment.
