“My dear Ranjana never got to experience the joys of childhood or teenage. Her entire 17 years of existence have been spent in pain and misery. But even through all the turmoil, she smiled for our sake. But as a mother, I could sense the pain that was hidden behind those smiles. How I wish I could take my daughter’s pain away.”

Selvi Ranjana, the 17-year-old daughter of Santhi and Prakas, lives with her family in Palakkad, Kerala. She has been diagnosed with scoliosis, which was first detected during her infancy when her bone appeared crooked. Her condition has also caused her to be underweight.

Selvi Ranjana has been confined to Kerala’s Ganga Medical Centre & Hospitals Pvt Ltd (4.5 km from Coimbatore Railway Station) for the past two months, where she is undergoing physiotherapy. Doctors have recommended surgery for her, which comes at the cost of Rs.8,00,000/- (Rupees Eight Lakh Only).

Prakas works as a daily wage labourer and is the only breadwinner in his family of four. He has exhausted his savings and has taken help from his loved ones, but he is still falling short.
