“Every time I take Nasrin for blood transfusion, she asks me with those innocent eyes ‘Abba, till
when do I have to continue these transfusions.’ At that moment, my voice breaks with grief, and
I have nothing to offer her except false assurances. But I fear that she can see through my lies,
and is realizing that there is no help coming for her. Please do whatever you can to save my
daughter.”-
On 28th January, Nasrin had her ninth birthday. But all the joy and festivities were absent from
the house, as their house has been plagued by grim sadness. Nasrin’s mother, Manuwara
Khatun tries her best to make her smile. But how can you make a girl suffering from something
like Thalassemia Major smile?
It all started when Manuwara noticed that Nasrin’s stomach has taken a grotesque structure due
to swelling, and her eyes and skin were yellow. Their condition was beyond the means of their
local doctor, so they had to take her to a bigger hospital. After undergoing a genetic test, it was
confirmed that Nasrin was suffering from such a bloodthirsty disease.
Today, Nasrin lives in a rented apartment near NH Mazumdar Shaw Medical Center in
Bengaluru. Every month she has to go for blood transfusions, and she also has to undergo body
tests after fixed intervals.
The entire financial burden of the family is carried out by Lal Mahammad, who works as a
craftsman, and only earns Rs 15,000 per month. Out of his meagre income, Rs 6,000 goes to
his house’s rent. Leaving only little to carry out the daily expense of his family of four.
Doctors have said that Nasrin needs a bone marrow transplant, which will cost around
34,00,000/- (Rupees Thirty-Four Lakhs Only). So far he has managed to pay the bills through
trusts, but right now he has no option but to rely on your kindness. Please save Nasrin from her
gruesome disease, and allow her to live the carefree childhood she deserves.
