“13th January 2012 was a bittersweet day for me. On the one hand my daughter, Madhupriya was born, but on the other hand, the doctors were waiting for me with a piece of distressing news. They told me that my daughter had two holes in her heart, and one of her holes got enclosed on its own. But her woes have not ended, as she still has a hole in her heart. Please save my daughter.”-

Kumaraswamy Gudeli and his wife, Mamatha Gudeli, work day and night to ensure that their family are not lacking. They both work as daily wage labourers and earn barely enough to put food on the table for their family of four.

However, the burdens of the couple do not end at the dinner table, as their eleven-year-old daughter, Madhupriya, has been diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect. At birth, she had two holes in her heart. Although one of the holes got enclosed on its own, the other hole still continues to bother her. But the doctors at Care Hospitals, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad has said that she needs Complex Open Heart Surgery to close the other hole.

The cost of Madhupriya’s life-saving surgery is Rs.3,50,000/- (Rupees Three Lakhs Fifty Thousand Ony). The mere mention of the amount sent a chill down the spines of her parents, as they have no way of paying for their daughter’s treatment.

Rs 3.5 lakh is not only the cost of Madhupriya’s treatment. It is the cost of her smile, her childhood, and her joviality. It is the cost of all the fond memories she has spent with her parents and the bright future that awaits her.
