As time passed, we had to take Khadija to different hospitals. Till now, she has undergone seven surgeries. Can you imagine how much my little angel must endure because of these surgeries? And yet another surgery is needed, doctors say. I feel this is endless. I just want my daughter to escape this horrible condition,” said Khadija’s mother, sobbing.

Five-year-old Khadija is the elder daughter of Mr Salam and Mrs Mueena from Maharashtra. Khadija is suffering from Urinary incontinence, a condition where one loses control over the urinary bladder. Her excretion organ of the digestive system was not fully developed in the womb. Hence, she underwent seven surgeries at regular intervals to correct the deformity. Yet another surgery is required to correct the bladder deformity. Khadija is currently getting treatment at Surgical Urology and Multispeciality Hospital, Maharashtra. The doctors have advised a treatment called Augmentation Ileocystoplasty and Bladder Neck Reconstruction Mitrofanoff procedure.

The estimated cost of the treatment is Rs. 3,00,000/- (Rupees Three Lakhs Only). Khadija’s parents have spent lakhs of rupees on the treatment so far; they had to borrow the money from different places resulting in a massive debt on their shoulders. A child as young as her makes friends, but Khadija has no friends because she has no chance to socialise ever. When Khadija was born, she didn’t cry immediately; doctors had to keep her under observation. The doctors informed us that her urinary bladder was not functioning, and the excretion part of her digestive system was not fully developed. This was terrifying news! We could take Khadija home after a few days of treatment and medications. But the doctors warned us that Khadija would have to undergo surgeries in the future. As time passed, we had to take Khadija to different hospitals. Till now, she has undergone seven surgeries. Can you imagine how much my little angel must endure because of these surgeries? And yet another surgery is needed, doctors say. I feel this is endless. I just want my daughter to escape this horrible condition,” said Khadija’s mother, sobbing.
