“Devika is our third child. We have never faced this kind of situation with our other two children. I don't
know why this is happening to our daughter. She is so small and innocent. It is very hurtful to see her
struggling to survive and live a normal life”-
Devika is the daughter of Mr. Gurunath and Mrs. Shivakanthamma. She has two siblings, the first sibling
is a 12 year old brother and the second is an 8 year old sister. Devika hails from Diggaon, Gulbarga
District, Karnataka. Mr. Gurunath (father) works as an auto driver in Diggaon and Mrs Shivakanthamma (mother) is a daily wager. They make a decent living to support their family. When Devika was three
years old she started facing problems in walking so her parents took her to the nearest medical aid
facility to find out what was going wrong with their child.
After several scans, she was diagnosed with Dorsolumbar Kyphotic Deformity. It is a spinal cord
impairment due to excessive forward rounding of the upper back. Doctors informed them that there is
no medication available for this defect and the only solution is to undergo surgery. Currently Devika is
admitted at Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Bengaluru. The estimated cost of the treatment is
3,50,000/- (Rupees Three Lakhs and Fifty Thousand Only). They are finding it difficult to find any support
for the treatment of their daughter. Please help the family!
