This year, along with fighting COVID19, Assam faces huge difficulties and destruction with the monsoon rains. Assam is staggering under destructive floods due to heavy rainfall. The Floods have widely destroyed the homes, farmlands, schools, bridges, and road links across Assam. Lakhs of people have been affected and thousands of families are made to take refuge in schools, roadways, and temporary relief camps.

The situation has claimed 87 human lives until now, while 70 lakh people in 24 districts are affected. The quick-rising water level has also flooded the "Kaziranga National Park", home to the world’s largest group of one-horned rhinoceros, with an estimated 2,500 out of a total population of some 3,000 of the animals. Nine rhinos have died and over 100 other animals have been killed including 36 hog deer, eight rhinos, three wild buffaloes, one python, seven wild hogs, two swamp deer, one sambar, and two porcupines have so far died due to drowning, according to state government.

There are almost 200 families living on a road from the last 28 days in Bongaigaon, Assam. Our teams have started to distribute flood relief materials to the families and sanitary pads to all the females present there. These camps need more support and comfort. These relief materials are of little comfort compared to what they are going through. Losing Home, families, comfort is the nightmare these people are living in right now. Child Help Foundation is the first organization to reach out to them. We need more help and support from all over the world to help them fight this nightmare.

Right now they are in a state where there is no healthcare for any kind of injury or sickness, no food resource, no help. These people are fighting the battle alone and in fear. We cannot even imagine the situation of what is happening out there in the open while we stay safe in our homes.
