“Life is not fair and we have been living in a nightmare for the past 6 months. No mother wants
to see her young daughter be bedridden when she should be out playing and living her
childhood. My beautiful Ansa has been in so much pain, I don’t know how to hold back my tears
in front of her. All I want for my daughter is a normal happy childhood, is that too much to ask”? -
Asnamol Anas is the 12-year-old daughter of Mr. Muhammed Anas and Mrs. Ajmy Anas from
Idukki, Kerala. She has a younger brother who is two and a half years old. A grandmother and
grandfather completed her happy little family. Life seemed normal for Asnamol; it was not
luxurious or filled with riches but humble and grounded. All that changed when six months ago,
Asnamol was diagnosed with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (a type of spinal deformity that
causes the curvature of the spine).
It all started when Asnamol started feeling numbness and pain in her little body and would often cry
out in pain. After she constantly complained about the pain, her parents, who got worried, took her to
a local doctor. The doctor asked for an X-ray and referred them to the Medical Trust College.
At the hospital, the parents were informed about scoliosis, and that only spine surgery was their best
option. The parents were shocked and heartbroken; the ground beneath their feet fell through in one
sweep. The doctors have advised a Spine Correction Surgery, the estimated cost of which is
Rs.7,00,000/- (Rupees Seven Lakh Only).
“My family was happy, we did not have a lot but we were happy. I work as an Autorickshaw driver,
whatever I earn goes into supporting the family and the income is not always stable. We live in a
rented house and I have medical bills to pay.Things have been very difficult , my father had an
accident and he has been bedridden. I have to pay medical bills of two people and I don’t have
enough money. I can’t bear to see my daughter in pain. It breaks my heart that her childhood is
being snatched away because of this illness. I feel very helpless, please help me. Your help can give
my daughter her childhood back!” - Mr.Muhaamed Anas (Father)
