Amerah has already undergone two surgeries, is taking rigorous physiotherapy sessions and still, she cannot enjoy her childhood like other babies. My husband works hard every day, but we are still unable to pay for our baby's treatment. Please help us! Every penny counts.” -

Amerah Efra Denson is the 1year 5-month-old baby girl of Mr. Denson George and Mrs. Anju Joy. The baby's father is a fisherman with a monthly income of only Rs. 3,500/-. Her mother is a homemaker. Amerah has a three-year-old elder sister Grace Maria Denson. The family of four lives in a rented house in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala with a monthly rent of Rs 3,000/-.

Amerah was born with a Neural Tube Defect involving lumbar Meningomyelocele type 2 Arnold Chiari Malformation and urinary problems in SreeAvittamThirunal Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Normally the cerebrospinal fluid protects the brain, and the spinal cord is present in the tissues of the spine. Meningocele occurs when a fluid sac pushes through the gap between the vertebrae. Chiari malformation causes the brain tissue to extend into the spinal canal. Due to this disorder, when Amerah was born, her legs were numb, and she could not move her legs like a healthy newborn would. She has already undergone two surgeries to repair meningomyelocele and ventriculoperitoneal shunting.

Amerah underwent physiotherapy for motor development and intermittent catheterization for urinary problems in the KIMS Health Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala for multiple weeks.  Physiotherapy helped her to move her right leg. However, this was not enough. To recover and move like a normal baby, she needed to continue physiotherapy for another two years. The estimated cost was Rs. 2,00,000/-. With the help of Child Help Foundation, the cost was raised, and Amerah is getting the physiotherapy she needs.

But things have got even worse for little Amerah. Her open bladder neck and vesicoureteric reflux have not worked well with clean intermittent catheterisation. She is one and half-year-old and has developed a severe urine infection which has affected her kidneys badly. The doctors have suggested urgent Bladder Augmentation surgery to combine ureteric implantation to protect her kidney. She also needs to undergo Posteromedial Soft Tissue Release surgery for the ankle. The estimated cost of the surgeries is Rs. 7,20,000/- (Rupees Seven Lakhs Twenty Thousand Only). Little Amerah is going through a difficult time, and she is desperately waiting for your support.

Even though Amerah was discharged and has recently undergone bladder surgery, She is now due for a Cystoscopy Injection of Botox under General Anaesthesia, which would cost the family an additional Rs 75,000/- (Rupees Seventy-five thousand only), according to the doctors at Kims Health in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
