Every Step is a Struggle. Help Durga Walk Again

Durga, a 14-year-old girl from Nandini Layout, Bengaluru, Karnataka, has spent most of her life fighting a condition that makes even the simplest movements a challenge. She has been diagnosed with Spastic Quadriplegic Cerebral Palsy GMFCS Grade III With Bilateral Crouch Gait, a condition that affects all four of her limbs and causes her to walk in a bent, crouched posture that puts immense strain on her body with every step she takes. This has been her reality since birth.

For her parents, Palani, who works as a coolie, and Asha, a homemaker, watching their daughter struggle every single day has been deeply painful. The family of five, including Durga's sister and brother, relies entirely on Palani's modest daily earnings, which barely cover the most basic needs of the household.

Doctors at Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Bengaluru (450 metres from Bangalore Cantonment Railway Station), have recommended a surgical procedure called Bilateral Distal Femoral Extension Osteotomy with Patella Tendon and Tibial Tuberosity Advancement to correct her gait and significantly improve her ability to walk. The estimated cost of the treatment is Rs. 3,00,000 (Rupees Three Lakh Only).

For a family surviving on daily wages with absolutely no savings to fall back on, arranging this amount is simply not possible on their own. Asha manages the home and three children while Palani does everything he can to keep the family going. Durga deserves the chance to stand tall and walk freely, and with the right support, that chance is within reach.
