Lung Cancer is one of the most deadly diseases in the world. It is the most common cancer among men, and second most common cancer among women, making it the second most common cancer overall. In 2020, 2.2 million cases of lung cancer were recorded around the world.
In India, 6.9% of new cancer cases and 9.3% of cancer-related deaths are attributed to lung cancer alone. This is due to the high prevalence of pollution, as around 63 out of the 100 most polluted places on earth belong to India.
To raise awareness about Lung Cancer,1st August is celebrated as World Lung Cancer Day. Since 2012, Discussions, Talks, and Workshops have been conducted around the world on this day to raise awareness about lung cancer.

The primary cause of lung cancer is smoking. Smoking causes 80% of lung cancer and 90% of lung cancer deaths among men and women. If you are a smoker, it is better to stop smoking and if you are a non-smoker, it is advisable to not succumb to peer pressure.
Secondhand smoke can also result in lung cancer. Avoid standing near smoke zones and keep a distance if your friend is smoking. Some other methods of avoiding lung cancer are: Testing Your Home for Radon, Avoiding Carcinogens, Proper Diet, and Regular Exercise.
However, in our modern day and age, we are easily exposed to pollution. So getting diagnosed with lung cancer is more probable than ever before.

- Hoarseness
- Loss of Weight

- Headache

There are two types of lung cancer, non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer.
Cancerous cells appear small in patients with small-cell lung cancer, while the contrary is evident in people with non-small-cell lung cancer. Sometimes, patients might have both small cell as well as non-small cell lung cancer.
People with non-small cell lung cancer can be treated with surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, targeted therapy, or a combination of these treatments. People with small cell lung cancer are usually treated with radiation therapy and chemotherapy.
