11th November is annually celebrated as National Education Day in India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India. As the first Education Minister, Azad emphasized adult literacy, universal primary education, free and compulsory for all children up to the age of 14, girls' education, and diversification of secondary education and vocational training. The first Indian Institute of Technology in 1951 and the University Grants Commission in 1953 were also established under his leadership.

Today, India has made leaps and bounds when it comes to education. India’s literacy rate stands at 74.04%, which was 65.38% in 2001 and 18.33% in 1951. In 2001, only 12.2% of households had one graduate person but in 2011 there were 16.7% of households with a graduate person.

However, we need to set higher standards. European countries are reaching a literacy rate of more than 90%. In India, only Kerala, Lakshadweep and Mizoram have been able to achieve that.

Child Help Foundation is making an attempt to improve the educational standards of India and make the future of the country shine brighter than the stars.

The presence of our Quality Education programme is in many states. We support ashram schools in Maharashtra and routinely conduct stationery kit distribution throughout the nation. We also raise funds for school fees of underprivileged children, ensuring that finances don’t come in the way of schooling.

Not only that but we have also established computer labs at Tailik Girls School, Utkramit Uchch Vidyalaya in Lodipur and Madhya Vidyalaya in Barbigha, Bihar and Central Primary School (Marathi Medium) in Amboli, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

Child Help Foundation has also established numerous Mini Science Centre in states like Maharashtra and Bihar. These centres provide hands-on learning experiences of science with models and experiments.

Our schools also give students an opportunity for all-round development. Extracurricular activities like Yoga Day, Independence Day, Adolescent Reproductive and Sexual Health (ARSH) sessions and Visit to Science Festivals are held for the students.

With our Quality Education Programme, Child Help Foundation has been able to help 4,90,914 students.
