“On this important day, let’s re-commit to ensuring that all people can lend their energies to shaping a better future for all people and the planet we share. Let’s stand with volunteers, everywhere.” - António Guterres
December 5 is annually celebrated as International Volunteer Day, which is a United Nations-designated international celebration. It offers an opportunity for volunteer-involving organizations and individual volunteers to promote volunteerism, encourage governments to support volunteer efforts and recognize volunteer contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at local, national, and international levels.
The theme for this year is “The power of collective action: if everyone did”. The theme calls for everyone to volunteer, to make this world a better place and create limitless possibilities for sustainable development – food and education for everyone, a clean environment and good health, inclusive and peaceful societies, and more. Use the hashtags #IfEveryoneDid and #IVD2023 to join the conversation.
To celebrate the selfless volunteers, who dedicate themselves to making this world a better place without anything in return, we would like to talk about how they make a difference in the world.
- Volunteers Raise Awareness about Issues
- Volunteers Provide an Extra Hand
- Volunteers provide comfort and support to all people.
- Volunteers foster community development and success.
- Volunteers Save Lives
When a Volunteer dedicate themselves to a cause, they are not only making a difference but are also educating people about different issues. Curiosity around their peer arises, and volunteers get an opportunity to educate their loved ones. This creates a chain reaction of awareness and education, that has immense power to change the world.
NGOs and orphanages have staff at their disposal to carry on their task. But a limited number of people can only bring a limited amount of utility. This is where a volunteer can be helpful. They make extra efforts that are helpful to make sure that as many needs as possible are met.
Volunteers cater to the people who need help the most. During such times of crisis, volunteers have been known to bring comfort and support to the people during the most tumultuous times. They give hope and direction to the people who may be missing it.
Volunteers make the lives of marginalized people better just by committing to the task. This is important if we want to uplift the lower class. By making things easier for the lower strata of society, we are giving them more power to rise in the future.
During times of crisis, Volunteers have been at the forefront of providing humanitarian aid. The amount of lives they saved is immeasurable. They provide help in making areas safe after natural disasters, provide emergency support, and deliver vital goods like water, food, and medical supplies to areas in desperate need.
Child Help Foundation is incredibly thankful to all our volunteers, who thanklessly commit to fulfilling our goals. We are indebted to their support, without them our efforts would be null and void.
