On 10th December 1948, the United Nations (UN) adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which was the first globally accepted manifesto of human rights and a significant achievement of the international governing body. Since then 10th December is annually observed as Human Rights Day, commonly known as HDR.
The theme for this year is “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now”, which shows the tangible impact of human rights by focusing on relevant global issues, showcasing impact, successes and practical solutions. Child Help Foundation itself has taken inspiration from the United Nations to serve the underserved.
Programmes are designed upon the UN-designated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), like Good Health and Well-Being (SDG3), Quality Education (SDG4), Zero Hunger (SDG2), Gender Equality (SDG5), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG6), Village Development (SDG 8 & 10), Humanitarian Relief (SDG 11, 13 & 17), Life Below Water (SDG 14) & Life on Land (SDG 15).
With the Good Health and Well-Being Programme, Child Help Foundation provides quality healthcare to the underprivileged. 3,949 children have managed to overcome terminal illnesses and live fulfilling lives. 1,63,462 mothers have been provided safe spaces to feed their newborns and 2,76,420 people have been educated on health-related issues.
Education has been provided to 5,34,434 children. Mini Science Centres have been established in many ashram schools of Palghar, Maharashtra and computer labs have also been inaugurated in many schools of Maharashtra, Bihar, Daman & Diu and Dadra Nagar Havelli. . 25,93,347 people have been provided quality meals through our nutrition programmes like Aatmanirbhar Palghar, designed to improve the health of malnourished children in the district and Rath Yatra Food Distribution Drive catering to feed the devotes in the annual pilgrimage.
Gender Equality initiatives have helped to clear the minds of 1,29,967 people. POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment) and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) sessions have been held in many workplaces and educational institutes. Child Help Foundation has also conducted self-defence classes, Gendercide awareness sessions and Women’s Day celebrations across India.
The Clean Water and Sanitation (WASH) programme ensures the right of sanitation and hygiene to the people. 100 toilets have been constructed, which helps 13,660 people along with 59 water purifiers that help 21,804 people. Sanitary pads have been distributed to 60,894 girls and 5,731 people have been involved in our WASH-related programmes.
2,187 villagers’ lives have been improved with our Village Development Programme and 11,34,590 people have been provided with relief during natural disasters. The rights of animals and plants have also been protected with Life on Land and Life Below Water activities, helping 63,596 & 2,09,46,120 lives respectively.
