“Medicines cure diseases, but only doctors can cure patients.” -Carl Jung

Doctors are an integral part of our life, if we have the slightest fever to threatening disease we entrust our doctors to cure. They play a crucial role in saving lives and improving the health of individuals. They work tirelessly day and night to diagnose, treat and prevent illness. Every year on July 1st, National Doctor’s Day is celebrated to honour the contributions and sacrifices made by doctors in the healthcare industry.

In India, National Doctor's Day has a long tradition. In 1991, the Indian government formally designated July 1 as National Doctor's Day. The choice was selected to honour Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, a renowned physician and West Bengal's second chief minister, for his services. The day is the anniversary of both his birth and death. Dr. Roy, a prominent physician and inspiring leader who lived from July 1, 1882, to July 1, 1962, was instrumental in the growth of India's healthcare system, his magical diagnostic skills started making waves. The news of his quick analysis of chronic ailments and simple affordable treatment spread wings transforming the young doctor into a magical angel of health

The day's purpose is to raise awareness of doctors’ duties, importance, and obligations and promote the medical profession. This day allows us to express our gratitude to physicians for all that they do for their patients, the communities in which they operate, and society as a whole. Without a doubt, it is because of their efforts that we are all healthy. We have seen during the pandemic, that doctors worked relentlessly without a break mostly everyday to save the patients even without considering the risk to their life. Still, many people in the country do physical violence to these doctors without even considering their importance of them in our life.

India has achieved incredible strides in the field of medicine, and 1 July honours all the doctors who have worked tirelessly, against all circumstances, to accomplish this. Additionally, it draws attention to and raises public awareness of the crucial and priceless job done by doctors to save lives.

Although a doctor's journey may appear challenging at first, their endurance and dedication ultimately save a life. Doctors are probably the only ones who can experience the wonder of creating life, the honour of being believed in, and the gratitude of helping those who are ill. They are now nothing less than a tremendous power as a result. The white coat of dignity and pride holds much more value and importance as it’s said that we can pay the doctor to resolve our troubles but for their kindness, we remain in debt.
