Dussehra, aka Vijayadashami, is one of the most celebrated and awaited occasions of the year. This year, the celebrations will occur on 12th October with Ravana’s effigies being burnt throughout the country to symbolise the victory of good over evil as it marks the anniversary of Lord Rama’s victory over demon-king Ravana.
Dussehra signifies the defeat of evil, with Ravana being the metaphor for it. But Ravana still lingers in this world in different forms, one of which is poverty. What can be more evil than poverty which robs a human being of dignity, opportunities, and basic necessities? Millions of people struggle to afford food, clothing, shelter, and education, all of which are the basic rights of man, which we all have learned in our childhood yet seem to have forgotten in adulthood.
Evil also exists in our hierarchical society, one which can be seen in the form of gender discrimination. Is it humane to see half of the population live a subjugated life which involves them being a child-rearing machine so that the other half can live however they wish? Yet it is something we have all agreed is natural.
Is it also just to cause widespread catastrophes with fossil fuels and carbon emissions to create more and more products that inevitably cause more waste to be spilt? Creating millions of plastic products that will exist even after hundreds of our generations have passed away, isn’t that evil?
This Dussehra, Child Help Foundation invites you to defeat modern-day Ravanas and make society better for everyone. Child Help Foundation with its various programmes helps the underprivileged sections of society. Our programmes include Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Zero Hunger, Gender Equality, Humanitarian Relief, Life on Land, Life Below Water and Village Development. Through all these programmes, we have helped 48,45,101 people.
To conduct these operations, we have always relied on the support of volunteers, corporate sponsors and everyday donors. Without your help, we wouldn’t have been able to save even one life.
Child Help Foundation requests you to come forward and join us to defeat Ravanas that exist in our daily lives that we have accepted as byproducts of modern society. The earth is rich enough to provide for everyone.
