On June 26, people around the world mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Even celebrity endorsement of drugs in commercials encourages young people to experiment with drugs. Drug misuse only has detrimental effects, such as drug dependency, mental and physical health issues, and poor academic performance.

It's important for us as citizens to stop or at least reduce the usage of drugs by youths. Here are some ways in addressing and reducing drug addiction in young people. It is crucial for parents to keep a close eye on their kids from an early age, they should regularly monitor their kids' activities as they grow, and they should try to be role models for their children through the right path of guidance and support. Education and awareness programs in schools and colleges, providing accurate information about the harmful effects of drugs and adopt healthy alternatives.

Ensuring that there are accessible and affordable treatment and counselling services available for young people struggling with drug addiction. Even restricting the portrayal of drug abuse in media, particularly targeting the youths of the country can potentially reduce the usage of drugs.
